It is ridiculously easy to book a babysitter using CluckCluck. It is SO much better than sending overlapping texts to 5 people to see who’s available while you look for parking at Starbucks. (Not that you would text and drive ever, of course!)
I am going to show you how to use CluckCluck to book your sitter, but first I have to clear up one quick misconception. Our app is designed to help you communicate with the sitters you already know and trust. We are not about helping you find brand new sitters to add to your roster. If you need new people, try UrbanSitter or Sittercity! Then come back to us and connect with those brand-new caregivers using CluckCluck.
OK, everyone back now? Here we go!
To book a sitter, open up the app and click on the “Events” button, then click the “plus” icon in the upper right corner to create a new event. Fill in the event date, start/end time, and whether it repeats (e.g., you need a standing sitter every Tuesday night for book club) or it’s a one-time thing (e.g., meeting a friend for tapas at a wine bar, woo!). Here’s an example:
Clicking the “caregivers” bar will bring up your list of CluckCluck friends; you can check boxes to indicate which of them should receive this babysitting invitation. If you want to send the invite to someone who doesn’t have the app, check the “Add Other Caregivers by Email” box.
When you finish creating your event, click the “send” button on the upper right to send it to all your selected sitters. If you’ve chosen to notify caregivers by email, the app will also generate a pre-populated email with your event details in the body; you can send this email to whomever you wish.
Here’s the fun part: your selected caregivers will get a notification on their Feed page and on their Event calendar letting them know they’ve been invited to a babysitting job. Each sitter can review the event details and then indicate whether they’re available or not with a single touch. You get to see everyone who’s available, then select the person you want, and confirm with only that selected babysitter. The event will sync to your iPhone calendar and your selected caregiver’s iPhone calendar, and disappear for everyone else. Magic!
You can open the event to edit it at any time (before or after you’ve confirmed with a sitter), or to send an email with the event details at any time. I do this regularly for date nights with my husband – I’ll book a sitter, then use the app to send him an email with all of the event details. It’s pretty great.
So that’s it! That’s all there is to booking a sitter with CluckCluck “Easy peasy lemon squeezy”, as my daughter would say. And much better than a ticket for texting and driving!
