Last night, I was invited to the launch of Rachel Zoe’s new maternity line for A Pea In the Pod. This was thrilling for three reasons: (1) I am four months pregnant, and fast approaching the point where regular clothes are no longer an option, (2) ooooh celebrity launch event at Chateau Marmont, yay!, and (3) Rachel Zoe is pretty much amazing.
Seriously, let’s give her props for a minute. The woman has no formal fashion training, and yet has managed to create an empire that includes:
- Being among the best-known celebrity stylists of all time
- A five-season run of her TV show, The Rachel Zoe Project
- Launching the incredibly popular daily The Zoe Report
- Multiple successful clothing lines and collaborations, and
- Publishing two books.
And let’s not forget, she’s also a mom to two beautiful boys! She built her brand from the ground up, all by herself, while mothering two littles. If ever someone met the definition of a Mother Clucker, Rachel Zoe is IT.
Plus, you guys? The clothes are great. In typical Rachel Zoe fashion, she’s managed to create maternity clothes that are actually attractive and that women are going to want to wear. No small feat.
That striped dress on the left, with the black jacket? I want to wear that dress to work every single day for the next five months. I wouldn’t say no to the navy blue maxi dress in the back, either, especially since I’m going to be hugely pregnant in the blazing heat of the Los Angeles summer sun. I wanted it ALL, if I’m being honest.
The launch event was beautiful, and included mocktails, pregnancy-safe appetizers, and even perfect little macaroons. I may or may not have gobbled down four of the macaroons on my ride home; I can’t remember exactly. Here are a few quick iPhone pics to give you a sense of the evening.
So, big props to Rachel Zoe for designing some beautiful maternity clothes, throwing a great party, and generally being a badass. And thanks to my friend Terra of www.81brut.com for letting me tag along and pretend to be a cool person for an evening!
